A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular, because they resemble your natural teeth. They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth giving you a natural, long lasting beautiful smile.
Reasons for crowns:
What does getting a crown involve?
A crown procedure requires Dr. Chen and her team to prepare your tooth, removing any decay or damaged tooth structure. Your tooth is then prepared to make room for the crown to fit over the tooth and still occupy the same space as the original natural tooth. Once this preparation is complete, we take a series of photographs and other measurements through our CEREC digital scanner. At this point, you will have a choice to wait for your crown to be designed and milled to have the permanent crown placed that same day or you can choose to come back for a second appointment to have your permanent crown placed.
